The sejour lounge chair is a low-slung chair with playful proportions characterized by a deep, generous seat and a gently curving backrest set atop a slender metal frame and optional wooden armrests. This ingenious pairing of contrasting forms, weights and materials results in an intriguing, almost anthropomorphic form. It makes a stylish statement in a bedroom – in fact it references early eighteenth-century ‘slipper’ chairs, once reserved for sitting on while donning shoes or slippers in elegant Victorian ladies’ boudoirs. The slipper typology started to appear in shared living spaces by the 1950s.
