The Cartoon chair is the result of a longer study in anthropomorphism; as attribution of uniquely human characteristics to nonhuman creatures and beings, natural and supernatural phenomena, material states and objects or abstract concepts. It is a development of the Antropomorfo chairs shown on the previous pages, and it is inspired by the spontaneous expression in children’s drawings, and their free way of illustrating objects and personages, so that they often appears anthropomorphically and with surprising proportions. The challenge was to translate and interpret this expression from a childish freehand drawing into a three dimensional furniture. Despite the cartoonish proportions, the detailing is extremely precise, lifted by strict Scandinavian characteristics and a high quality traditional work process. The small buttons embedded in the oversized backrest are intended to bring an element of anthropomorphism. The over dimension of the upholstered backrest catches great attention, but at the same time it brings all other elements completely out of balance, and unexpectedly it renders the small details even smaller, though giving them even greater importance. The use of natural materials is giving life to this personage between human and form
